TRAVEL VACCINATION

The concept of Vaccination has been the most favourite topic of discussion among the people these days because of COVID pandemic.

Vaccines are made up of killed or live attenuated micro-organisms or the protiens found on the surface of those Organisms. Vaccination is the process of giving vaccine to any person, in order to develop immunity against some specific disease. Vaccination is the excellent alternative to medicines for preventing the disease.


Travel Vaccination is the concept related to the travelers, especially those who are going to visit an area with endemic disease. The main aim of the travel vaccination is to limit the spread of disease from the endemic areas to the other regions of the World and also to safeguard the traveler's health. Thus, a person traveling to or traveling from a region with endemic disease need to take vaccination in order to protect himself/ herself and others.

Before traveling to any suspected region or country, a person must consult healthcare professionals for advice on vaccination.

The requirement of vaccination varies from country to country. Hence, it is recommended to check the specific country's vaccination requirement or WHO recommendation for vaccination before traveling to any region. WHO recommends vaccination against two diseases, Yellow Fever and Polio.

  1. Yellow Fever :- This disease is found endemic to the tropical regions of Africa and South America. Hence the travelers, above the age of 9 months, from this region and to this region need their vaccination certificate up to date. The countries like India, Australia, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia and many others require the vaccination certificate from the travelers coming from the endemic areas.
  2. Polio :- According to the studies, it is considered that polio is endemic to three countries, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. Travelers from these countries require to take vaccine against polio to limit the spread of virus. The countries like Bangladesh, Egypt, India and others require the vaccination proof from the travelers.
Malaria is found commonly in the African countries. Hence, the travelers to the Africa, Asia and others endemic regions are recommended to take the prescribed medicines before, during and after the trip. 

There are other vaccines also, which are recommended by the healthcare professionals to the travelers. For example, Hepatitis B vaccine, Typhoid Fever Vaccine, Japanese Encephalitis, etc.

To conclude, the concept of Travel Vaccination is for the safety of travelers and limiting the spread of deadly viruses around the World. Every travelers need to prepare a checklist of vaccine before departure.
